From the date you signed the returns, the refund should come in by 2 weeks.


The possible explanations are:

  • ATO is investigating your return due to unusual submissions (e.g. high deductions, wrong name, etc.)
  • you have outstanding debt that ATO is settling (tax debt, bankruptcy debt [i.e. credit card], etc.)
  • the wrong bank details were recorded on the tax return
  • this is your first return, and ATO needs more info to identify you (licence, passport, medicare, etc.)
